If you haven’t heard of Organic Balloon designs yet, you might be living under a rock. They are taking Instagram and Pinterest by storm, predominantly over the last 12- 18 months. They have been utilised for a range of occasions, like product launches, store grand openings, christenings, weddings and of course birthdays.
Australia is quite possibly leading the way with organic balloon design. Talented artists are creating huge hot air balloons, garlands spilling over the edge of buildings and roof tops, ceiling canopies covered in balloons and even highly detailed miniature garlands wrapping around cakes. It’s not just limited to the medium of latex balloons anymore either. Now we are seeing the introduction of foil balloons, custom colour balloons, florals, paper garlands and foil fringing. There is no end to the possibilities of what can be created!
We’ve been lucky enough to collaborate with the amazing Sarah Courtney, of Belle Balloons from Melbourne on two occasions now for balloons in Sydney.
The first was at the end of last year when Sarah was asked to create huge garlands hanging from the ceiling for the launch of the Women’s Big Bash League in their corporate marquee at North Sydney Oval. The colours were selected to represent each of the teams- Sydney Sixers, Sydney Thunder, Melbourne Stars, Melbourne Stars, Melbourne Renegades, Perth Scorchers, Brisbane Heat, Hobart Hurricanes and Adelaide Strikers. I spent the day working side by side with Sarah, as well as Chris from The Balloon Crew and Lis from Beyond Balloons. It was a long day, but it was fantastic to be able to do some hands-on work with a few of the people who I’ve met in this industry at various conventions and training events, both locally and internationally over the years. Of course, the best part was that the client was thrilled with the result.
I had the opportunity to work with Sarah again this week, as well as Chris from The Balloon Crew. The brief was to create two organic sculptures up the wall in two areas in the foyer outside of the ballroom at the International Convention Centre, where Tourism Australia was to celebrate their 50th Anniversary. We also helium filled twenty gold jumbo balloons, each with a custom-made tassel and printed decals with the clients’ logo and key dates from the last fifty years. These were to be held by the hostesses to mark the entrances and welcome the guests to the event.
